ABSTRACT

DISCUSSION and CONCLUSION:

Increased quality of antenatal care in adolescent pregnancies may decrease medical complications. However, even if the education rate is high, it seems to be preventing active participation in working life. The sensitivity of all parts of society should be increased. Marriage and pregnancy processes should be ensured at the age of individual competence. Thus, social complications may decrease.

RESULTS:

The mean age of marriage of the pregnant women was 17.01 ± 0.90. Although most of them had education level eight years or more, none of them was employed. Hyperemesis, anemia, cephalopelvic incompatibility were important medical and obstetric problems, 96% of pregnancies resulted in caesarean operation. Adolescent pregnancy rate was below the average in Turkey. Respiratory distress and jaundice were the common problems in newborn period. Respiratory tract infections and anemia in infancy were common health problems.

METHODS:

In this study, records of all cases diagnosed as “pregnancy” in the 10-19 age group who administered to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology between January 1, 2014 and January 2018 and their babies in the Department of Child Health and Diseases were examined retrospectively from the patient files and the electronic system of the hospital. One hundred eight pregnancies and 99 babies were evaluated. Data were presented with descriptive statistics.

INTRODUCTION:

Adolescent pregnancies are considered medically and socially complicated. The aim of this study is to define the medical and sociodemographic characteristics of adolescent pregnancies in our province and to review the health problems of the babies.
